JA Manafaru Resort
JA Manafaru sits in the far north of the Maldives, in Haa Alifu Atoll, reached by a 45-minute domestic flight to Hanimaadhoo International Airport followed by a 35-minute speedboat transfer — a longer journey that keeps the island noticeably quieter than resorts closer to Malé. Formerly a Waldorf Astoria property, its 84 villas use dark wood and grey stone to tie the interiors back to the surrounding greenery, each with a plunge pool, daybed, and sun loungers just off an open-air bathroom. The resort splits fairly evenly between romance and family life: couples can book The Cellar, the Maldives' deepest underground wine cave, for a multi-course tasting menu, while families have three swimming pools, a dedicated kids' club, and their own castaway-island excursion to a nearby uninhabited spot. Ocean Grill and White Orchid cover seafood and modern Asian dining, and Kakuni serves as the resort's easygoing all-day hub. Beyond the villas, PADI-guided diving explores one of the Maldives' less-visited atolls, Calm Spa Sanctuary draws on Ayurvedic and Maldivian wellness traditions, and excursions run out to Utheemu, the birthplace of national hero Boduthakurufaanu.
